Letters of Light Letters of Love

Through the eyes of light and love, Ruth conceptualizes the Hebrew letters as 'tiny little dancers dressed in sleek black outfits expressing themselves on ancient parchments'.
Inspired by the fascinating secrets of the Kabbalah and the Chassidut, the 'Holy Hebrew Letters' have become an intrinsic part of her artistic expression.
Her wishes are to help spread the secrets of the teachings of the Holy Ba'al Shem Tov, which are said to be the key to ushering in the ultimate final redemption for all of humanity.
Today Ruth lives in the Galilee with her husband and children and is fast becoming one of the influential members of the prestigious Safed Artists' Colony.

One of Ruth Knapp's main exhibitions is portrayed here in the heart of the Artists' Colony, Kikar Sade, Safed.

Ruth's love for wheel work and sculpting fine detailed carvings is a deep rooted passion. Working on the wheel, the whole world is spinning but once one gets the clay centered on the wheel everything is smooth like all the various details in life working together perfectly... a very calm feeling of oneness.

"The Land and Soul of Israel"
- the Light of Torah

The Four Holy cities, the Four Elements, the Four letters of the Divine Name...

Tsfat צפת represents air, the essential breath of life.

Tsfat is reknowned as the center of the mystical teachings of the Torah. Including the revered Kabbalah classic, the Zohar, authored by Rebbe Shimon bar Yochai (represented in the mountains of the Galilee), and the holy writings of the Arizal, the Holy Lion, here in Tsfat. These great sages' lights illuminate the many pathways in all of our lives. (נר להאיר)

Tiberias טבריה represents water, where everything new is rejuvenated.

In the womb of the Kinneret, the Well of Miriam rests, surrounded by the songs and inspiration of the women exiting Mitzrayim.
Standing by the shore is the great master, Rebbe Meir Ba'al HaNes.

Hevron חברון represents earth, the first plot of land officially bought in Israel for a resting place for our ancestors, Avraham and Sarah, Yitzchak and Rivka, and Ya’akov and Leah.

The Biblical Rachel, in whose merit the Jewish people have returned to the Holy Land, is depicted beneath the “Tree of Light” (Torah Ohr - תורה אור) on the way to Jerusalem.

Jerusalem ירושלים represents fire, the passion to thrive and transform the darkness to light.

Yeru (to see) shalem (completeness), Yerushalayim is the core of the Jewish people's soul, where the Divine Fire resides in the heart of Israel.
